In 2015, I collaborated with the award-winning surrealist poet John Thomas Allen. The “trans-continental surrealist séance” lasted 24 days and produced the 328 poems of The Lighthouse Above the Graveyard, published by Dark Green Sun Press in 2016.

In 2009, Hippocampus Press published The Outer Gate, The Collected Poems of Nora May French, which I co-edited with Donald Sidney-Fryer. You can order it here. In 2012, they published my Intimations of Unreality, which collected most of my early Lovecraftian tales together with several newly crafted ones; the best of my fantasy poetry; and two fantasy novellas that represent my more original work. "Alan’s Lovecraftian tales fall into the parameters of classic Lovecraft-Derleth-Kuttner-Bloch pastiche... It is like the ritual repetition of comforting but also challenging litanies." ~ Robert Price "Alan offers up some Old School Cthulhu Mythos fiction. But if you’re curious about what a ‘pure’ and uncommercial weird story might have looked like, Alan [also] dares tread into that territory." ~ Don Herron "Intimations of Unreality, both in the quality of prose and poetry, has the flavor of a dream read and remembered suddenly upon reading. Gullette's poetry reminds me of Clark Ashton Smith's, only Gullette is playing more on the field of lived experience. Just on the strength of this collection alone, I personally feel Alan Gullette will eventually become a household name in the realm of weird fiction." ~ John Allen "'The Green Transfer' is pure surrealism of the Boris Vian school. Image after image, dream logic after dream logic – the prose is immaculate and disorienting. I hope this novella winds up in some permanent collection of the Best of Weird. 'The More, The Marigold' Gullette turns up the surrealism knob slowly here – unlike the previous story which began with the knob set on 11. The mix of homey narrative and obscure scholarly facts reminds of Avram Davidson. This novella too demands a home in a strong anthology. The scope, aims and methods of these pieces would not make them odd shelf mates to Borges or Ligotti." ~ Don Webb

Phosphor Lantern Press
Beginning in 1998, I assisted Donald Sidney-Fryer in preparing a dozen of his books for publication, including several that were first published under the imprint of Phosphor Lantern Press and later reprinted by Hippocampus Press. These include: The Atlantis Fragments: The Trilogy of "Songs and Sonnets Atlantean" (2008), The Atlantis Fragments: The Novel (2011), The Golden State Phantasticks (2011), and West of Wherevermore (2016). In 2018, we published Don’s magnum opus, the five-volume, million-word ballet study The Case of the Light Fantastic Toe (2018; second edition, 2021).

translucent books
A new publishing venture began in 2017 with translucent books, issuing four titles from April Fool’s Day 2017 to April Fool’s Day/Easter 2018 and a fifth title in 2020. These collect the best of my poetry and short fiction written over the prior four decades: The Adventures of Franco Corelli (collage poetry), I Grew These Hueless Clouds in the Dreary South (surreal/experimental), Short Shrift (short forms of fiction), and Reviving a Dead Priest (philosophical/religious poetry and aphorisms).
On the Autumnal Equinox of 2020, a collection of new stories was published: The Elephant in the Room and Others, which blends elements of fantasy and the absurd -- with a twist of Zen.
A new collection of poetry, Footnotes to the Obvious, will be published in Spring 2023.
